Teacher Resources

Valuable for new and experienced teachers

Teacher resources include both what to teach and why it's our approach to teach in that way. Since our programs are research-based, teacher resources provide meaningful evidence and insights for implementing inquiry in the science classroom.

These are not "scripted-programs" but rather great scripts ready to be brought to life by the artistry of the teacher - just as an actor or director would a great play.

Equipment

Lab-Aids programs include high-quality equipment for each activity. This includes innovative lab-ware to be used throughout the year, specific solutions and materials for unique labs, as well as items needed for card sorts, modeling, role-plays, and projects.

All core curriculum programs include equipment for five classes of 32 students working in groups of fours, pairs, or individually; whatever is best for keeping all hands busy.

Student books

It's not a textbook.

Student books integrate investigations, labs, and readings. The activities in the Lab-Aids programs address students' learning styles through the use of a variety of approaches.

While labs involve experiments and traditional science equipment, investigations are hands-on activities that often simulate real-world experiments. Modeling activities explore content through simulations or physical models while reading activities employ strategies that facilitate classroom discussion.

Online resources

Online student and teacher portals bring an additional layer of support for the core curriculum programs. Editable PowerPoint slides are ready for each lesson, and for middle school programs, LABsent videos and student sheets are provided for absent students.

Online student and teacher books, as well as supplemental links and resources, allow both students and teachers to access them from home.

SEPUP course structure

A full year using Issues and Science | Designed for the NGSS generally consists of 5-6 units that can be taught in almost any order, based on your school's scope and sequence. Each unit then is structured with several activities, sequenced intentionally to engage the students, build on the storyline, and incorporate the three dimensions. Though the types of activities vary, the structure is consistent so that students recognize what to do and more time is spent on learning.

Unit at a glance

Take ten minutes to watch an overview of one unit from Issues and Science -- Land, Water. and Human Interactions. The first five minutes covers the unit's anchoring phenomenon, the unit issue, and a brief visit to each lesson, while the second half takes a deep dive into one activity. This is a great way to quickly see how SEPUP's new NGSS units are structured.

There are three text resources for teachers - each with their own important and unique role. The Student Books are the only place to review everything the students will see - this content is not repeated elsewhere. The Teacher Editions guide the day to day with specific instruction around each lesson. Finally, the one Teacher Resources provides broader instruction that applies to the program as a whole.
