The biggest shift in student learning since we've started Science and Global Issues: Biology is that students are now more engaged in the content. They have gone from memorization of concepts to application of ideas. Student work is now group based - working together with one another, asking questions and trying to figure out the answers to the challenges posed to them. The best part is seeing students make connections to the real world. I no longer get the question of "Why do I need to learn biology?". They understand the connection to their everyday lives. And, as a teacher, I really appreciate how I can adapt the program to a range of classes, from inclusion to honors. Science and Global Issues: Biology has also supported our implementation of the NGSS by aligning and supporting those standards with the materials supplied.
